Learn about the Great War in the Artois region with the Lille Tourism and Conventions Bureau.
The experience begins with the Lens' 14-18 - War and Peace History Center, which offers 650 m² of museum trails that present a poignant depiction of the horrors of the daily warfare and the scale of destruction in the area.
We then move on to discover Notre-Dame-de-Lorette, which is home to the largest First World War cemetery in France and the great Ring of Remembrance, an architectural oval that was inaugurated by the President of the French Republic in 2014 and movingly bears the names of 580,000 dead soldiers of all nationalities.
The tour comes to an end with a visit to Vimy, which houses an impressive monument to the sacrifice of Canadian troops in 1917 and offers a majestic view over Lens and its surroundings.
