After an absence of four decades, the legendary New York company Dance Theatre of Harlem makes an eventful return to France, with stops in Paris, Lyon, Bordeaux and Roubaix. Founded in 1969, Dance Theatre of Harlem has left its mark on the history of ballet, democratizing the art form and promoting diversity and inclusion.
To celebrate this return, the 28 virtuoso dancers present two alternative programs, reflecting the multicultural spirit so dear to Arthur Mitchell. Program A, to be discovered Friday February 20 and Saturday February 21 at 8pm, brilliantly blends neoclassical and contemporary styles, all supported by a strong musical identity.
The program includes
_Return_ (Robert Garland) ? A legendary ballet combining classical technique and rhythm-and-blues energy, set to the music of James Brown and Aretha Franklin.
_Take Me With You_ (Robert Bondara) ? A poetic duet, inspired by Radiohead, that questions the intimate and the universal through subtle choreography.
new Bach_ (Robert Garland) ? A tribute to Balanchine?s neoclassicism, enriched by popular and African influences, set to music by Johann Sebastian Bach.
blake Works IV_ (The Barre Project / William Forsythe) ? A virtuoso contemporary piece based on compositions by James Blake, fusing classical spirit and modernity to sublimate the company?s dancers.
With nearly 60 years of history and innovation, Dance Theatre of Harlem has established itself as one of the world?s most daring companies. The perfect opportunity to immerse yourself in a modern, vibrant vision of ballet, rich in emotion and accessible to all.
