On February 12, 2026, the Archives nationales du monde du travail (ANMT) is organizing a study day on the links between work and poverty, from the end of the 19th century to the present day.
This study day is part of the cultural program accompanying the exhibition Vivre ou survivre. [Travail et pauvreté aux 19e et 20e siècles](https://archives-nationales-travail.culture.gouv.fr/Decouvrir/Expositions/In-situ/Vivre-ou-survivre.-Travail-et-pauvrete-aux-19e-et-20e-siecles), on view at ANMT from June 5, 2025 to May 31, 2026. Its aim is to enrich and complement the exhibition?s focus, which stops in the 1990s, by offering a multidisciplinary forum for discussion, from a historical perspective that extends to current issues.

It will be held in the auditorium of the Archives nationales du monde du travail (ANMT), rond-point de l'Europe, 59100 Roubaix. This event is open to all.

? 9am: Welcome by ANMT
? 9.15am: Welcome by Laure Franek, Director of ANMT
? 9:30am: Speech by Yannick Marec, Professor Emeritus of Contemporary History (University of Rouen-Normandie): From charity to social protection: the first steps towards a social state and social citizenship (1870-1914)
? 10am: Speech by Antony Kitts, GRHis research associate (Université de Rouen Normandie): The affirmation of the social state, social citizenship and its limits (1914-2025)
? 10:30 a.m.: Break
? 10:45am: Speech by Marie Videbien, doctoral student at the University of Angers: "Travailleuses, unissons-nous! the struggle of women trade unionists against the casualization of working women during the economic crisis of the 1930s
? 11:15 am: Guided tour of the exhibition
? 12:30 pm: Lunch break
? 2pm: Carte blanche with Emmaüs international: "Contemporary experiments in the fight against precariousness. Emmaus: alternative models and social justice"

\- Historical introduction by Axelle BRODIEZ-DOLINO, historian specializing in the history of poverty at the CNRS

\-Patrick ATOHOUN, head of Emmaüs Pahou (Benin) and President of Emmaüs International: "How the work of all Emmaüs groups helps to combat the causes of poverty. One example among many: access to water in Nokoué, Benin."

\- Marie LANZARO, head of the Observatoire des Ressources Associatives at Emmaüs France: "Work and protection: existing alternative models and paradoxes"

\- Ï- Tiphaine GUIGNAT, in charge of access to social rights for companions at Emmaüs France: presentation of the OACAS status (Individual rights)
