**INSTALLATION FROM 09.04 TO 11.07.2026**
Every summer, from the 70s to the 90s, thousands of North African families crossed the Mediterranean.
From Marseilles or Roubaix, in an era without GPS systems, fully-laden cars criss-crossed France and Spain to the ferries that took them to the Maghreb, where their families and origins awaited them. This installation takes us on a journey to the heart of these embarked migratory tales and all the objects, memories and emotions they carry, celebrating the ritual nomadism that links two shores, with a view that is both sociological and sentimental. The result is a popular memory of immigration, elevated here to the status of intangible Mediterranean heritage.
To signify this nostalgic return home, the installation is structured around the collection and investigation of industrial, mechanical and cultural heritage. Mohamed El Khatib?s itinerary literally dissects a dozen Renault 12s and Peugeot 504s, turning the principle of the junkyard into a showcase for popular contemporary art.
