Description
A major figure on the contemporary jazz scene, Marquis Hill has established himself as a visionary musician, seamlessly blending jazz, hip-hop, R&B, neo-soul and Chicago house. For him, all these aesthetics are essential elements of the deep African-American creative heritage of which he is a part: "It all comes from the same tree," he says, "They've simply blossomed from different branches."
A trumpeter with a deep, expressive sound, he is a laureate of the prestigious Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz, and has rapidly established himself on the international scene with ambitious projects, including Modern Flows Vol. II, where improvisation, groove and commitment come together.
