A major exhibition at LaM in Villeneuve d’Ascq

From 20 February to 14 June 2026

In the spring of 2026, the city of Lille will be hosting a major artistic event.
LaM is reopening its doors with a major retrospective devoted to Vassily Kandinsky, a founding figure of abstract art.

Organised in partnership with the Centre Pompidou, the exhibition“Kandinsky face aux images” takes a fresh look at the artist, exploring a lesser-known aspect of his work: the role of images in the construction of his artistic thought.

Another look about Kandinsky

A painter of abstraction and a visionary theorist, Kandinsky is often associated with colour, music and spirituality.
This exhibition invites us to go further, revealing the extent to which photographs, scientific publications, popular images and visual documents fed his imagination.

Sketches, postcards, photographic archives, reproductions and major works come together to show how images became tools for research, transmission and artistic legitimisation.

        LaM is located in Villeneuve d’Ascq, within easy reach of Lille and the rest of the metropolitan area.

        Metro line 1 – Pont de Bois or Hôtel de Ville stop
        Bus and tram depending on your point of departure in the MEL.

        From Lille, the LaM can be reached in 15 to 20 minutes depending on traffic.

        Recommended routes:

        Via the ring road (A1 / N227) towards Villeneuve d’Ascq
        Via the RN227, exit Villeneuve d’Ascq – Cité Scientifique / Musée
        The ” LaM – Musée d’art moderne ” sign makes it easy to get to the museum as soon as you enter the town.

        Tip: during busy periods, use the park-and-ride facilities (P+R) combined with the metro for smoother access.

        • Allow plenty of time: the tour is rich and dense, so allow at least 1? hours for your visit.
        • Remember to book your ticket in advance during busy periods
        • Family visits: some of the works and installations are ideal for children to explore together.
        • Extend your experience: take a walk around the lakes, take a break in nature or discover other cultural sites in Villeneuve d’Ascq.
        • Combine culture and relaxation: cafés, restaurants run by Chef Florent Ladeyn and green spaces are the perfect complement to your visit.
