As soon as they arrived in October 1914, the Germans began looking for land to bury their fallen soldiers. Quesnoy was behind the front and home to several field hospitals, notably those of the Dames de Cluny and the Sisters of Saint-Vincent de Paul. The cemetery is home to 1,964 servicemen, including one General.
