The German military cemetery at Verlinghem contains the bodies of 1,157 soldiers who died in the First World War. The cemetery was established in April 1916 by German troops and operated until September 1918. Many of those buried here died in hospitals in Tourcoing from wounds sustained in the battles over the Armentières position and the British offensive of 1917.
