Inaugurated in 1983 thanks to an exceptional donation from Geneviève and Jean Masurel, LaM? Lille Métropole Musée d?art moderne, d?art contemporain et d?art brut? is today one of the few museums in Europe to combine these three artistic fields. With over 9,000 works, including masterpieces by Modigliani, Picasso, Léger and Miró, it was enriched in 1999 by a major collection of art brut assembled by the L?Aracine association. Through its collections, exhibitions and sculpture garden, LaM offers a unique panorama of twentieth- and twenty-first-century art, and affirms its mission of transmitting, arousing curiosity and encouraging encounters between artists and the general public.
In 2026, the museum will reopen after a major transformation, with redesigned spaces, new facilities for the public and a reinvented visitor experience. These changes are accompanied by a renewed restaurant offering, led by Michelin-starred chef Florent Ladeyn, with the Pigments restaurant and Pigments Café, inviting visitors to extend their museum experience in a convivial setting open onto the sculpture garden.
