Near the old post office, a monument pays tribute to the industrialist and politician Eugène Motte from Roubaix. Heir to the Motte-Bossut textile dynasty, in 1915 he was ordered by the German occupiers to produce fabric for the manufacture of trench bags. The monument quotes his refusal to Governor Hoffman: "We cannot accept the role of collaborators of the enemy. You can requisition our goods, but you cannot requisition our people".
