At the heart of the Lille metropolitan area, whose cross-border and European dimension continues to grow, two cultural structures, the Compagnie de Jean-Marc Chotteau in Tourcoing (F) and the Centre Culturel Mouscronnois in Mouscron (B), decided in 1999 to pool their skills and resources to create La Virgule, a cross-border center for theatrical creation.
Today, La Virgule is an autonomous structure, drawing on the confrontation between the practices and aesthetics of its two home countries, to create shows that question the present day, whether through contemporary writing or by transposing the great texts of European heritage to the stage, or by soliciting the very words of citizens to express them theatrically in places of memory (industrial wasteland, gallodrome, swimming pool).
Through its own creations, but also through its programming policy, La Virgule, supported since its creation by the European Union's Interreg programs, intends to develop the mission of a popular and artistically demanding theater in a cross-border, inter-communal and inter-regional dynamism, exemplarily European.
