Description
Just 7 km north of Lille, on the banks of the River Deûle, nestles the "City of Juniper". Although Wambrechies is mentioned in texts dating back to the 12th century, the parish dates back much further than that. The village boomed when Joan of Constantinople, Countess of Flanders, had the Lower Deûle canalised from Lille to Deûlémont. The emergence of the textile and agri-food industries, as well as the seigniory of Wambrechies, marked its history and contributed to its renown.
