Baile Funk : un cri de liberté

  • Exhibition / Fair / Open Day
70 Rue des Sarrazins, 59900 Lille
This exhibition traces the genesis of Carioca funk, not only through its music, but also by revealing its urban and peripheral cultural roots. It focuses on the rich social and community dimensions, while analyzing its aesthetic, political and economic evolution. The exhibition also examines the collective imagination forged around this emblematic musical genre.
Visitors can delve deep into the history of funk, looking back at the influences of soul music, imported to Brazil in the 1970s and 1980s, and the bailes de favela, the popular neighborhood parties that are now one of the driving forces behind artistic production in Brazil.
This exhibition explores the presence of funk in various cultural practices. Particularly in the visual arts, for which funk has been a reference point in terms of visibility, political resistance, otherness and form. The exhibition presents a variety of objects from the history of the musical genre, combined with an audiovisual profusion of sounds, voices and gestures. The public is invited to discover the unique world of funk in all its forms.
