Description
**Conference given by Juliette Singer, chief curator, director of the Palais des Beaux-Arts de Lille and the Musée de l?Hospice Comtesse**
The "Treasures of Wool and Silk" exhibition presents for the first time an exceptional collection of 18th-century tapestries belonging to the Musée de l'Hospice Comtesse and the Palais des Beaux-Arts. Created in Lille in the factory run by Guillaume Werniers, then by his widow Catherine Ghuys, they benefited from an exceptional restoration campaign from 2023 to 2026. The conference will review the history of these tapestries, and look at their various themes, with the success of the "Tenières" inspired by the paintings of David Teniers II. A behind-the-scenes look at how the tapestries were put together will be followed by a discussion of the layout of the exhibition, designed in collaboration with the Lille School of Architecture, and the presence of a loom from the Manufacture de Witt, providing an insight into manufacturing techniques.
**? A free tour of the exhibition is offered prior to the conference, starting at 5:45 p.m.**
