To celebrate 40 years of jazz in Tourcoing, the town of Tourcoing has organized the exhibition "Ça jazz!", a cross-disciplinary exhibition devoted to jazz, featuring "40 Bulles de Jazz", photographs by Didier Péron and Hervé Escario, and the work of Louh-Ann Alexandrenne.
Initially conceived by Jazz à Vienne for its 40th anniversary, "40 Bulles de Jazz" is an exhibition organized by the JML ARTS gallery, bringing together 40 renowned authors, journalists and artists, as well as 40 contemporary cartoonists. It offers a sensitive dialogue between writing and drawing, in which each artist explores, through his or her own style, the teeming universe of this music.
Official photographers of the Tourcoing Jazz Festival, Didier Péron and Hervé Escario have been the privileged witnesses of Tourcoing Jazz for many years. Both self-taught, they are renowned for their unique vision of the jazz scene, combining technical mastery, artistic flair and discretion. Their work, both powerful and intimate, captures the energy, emotion and poetry of live moments.
As part of the "Ça jazz !" exhibition, they will offer a unique panorama, each presenting his or her own universe and unique take on the artists who have marked Tourcoing over the last few decades. Their images will also interact in a common room on the theme of women musicians in jazz. An opportunity to celebrate their talent, their strength and their essential place in the history of this music that has relegated them to the background for far too long.
Visual artist, designer and tattoo artist Louh-Ann Alexandrenne designed the festival posters for 2023 and 2024. Spotted in her early days at the École Supérieure d?Art de Tourcoing, sketching musicians at the Tourcoing Jazz Club, she gradually developed a strong bond with jazz. Her talent led her to collaborate with various scenes and artists on illustrations, covers and visual projects. For this exhibition, she presents a series of drawings inspired by key figures in the festival?s history.
During their visit to the exhibition, the public will be immersed in a jazzy musical atmosphere thanks to a soundtrack created in partnership with the music department of the Malraux multimedia library, and will be able to discover the three drawn concerts co-produced for the 2018, 2019 and 2020 editions by Jazz à Vienne and the Angoulême International Comics Festival.
This exhibition complements other highlights organized by the City of Tourcoing on the anniversary of the Tourcoing Jazz Festival, in media libraries, at the Théâtre Municipal Raymond Devos and at the Conservatoire de Musique.
