Screening(s) in the barn on Saturday afternoon Duration: 1/2 h (20-minute screening followed by a brief discussion) 2:45 PM–3:30 PM: Cie du Lundi: A 10–15-minute play titled “Times Change, but Tastes Stay the Same” by Philippe Beauchamp. A comedy that explores the theme of cannibalism. The characters—a mother and her daughter—are among the last remaining members of a species that has gradually disappeared. They used to live peacefully in the countryside, where cows and sheep grazed (which they don’t eat), and no one criticized their way of life. They sometimes traveled quite far to find food, but in a way, that’s what gave their lives meaning. But… the city has been encroaching on the countryside… This humorous skit is full of metaphors and questions: heritage in danger (their castle has fallen into ruin and been replaced by high-rises)...and what will become of the countryside if no one eats meat anymore? Not to mention the issue of passing on traditions, since the daughter opposes her mother and doesn’t want to carry on the family tradition. Of course, we’ll have fun, drink coffee, and clean everything up. Of course, there’ll be lots of rounds of Tetris, everyone will have a say in how to get the couch out, and, of course, we’ll suddenly get an urgent phone call to take care of just as we’re carrying the washing machine out. But, of course, not everything will always be so straightforward, especially when it comes to leaving behind memories, leaving ghosts in our wake, moving into the future, or deciding what to keep when you’re moving off this planet.
