"The lotus flower is the only one to grow in the swamp, which is like the world itself, murky and muddy (...) And above all, when the flower opens in the swamp, all around the stem, the water clears up! It's a symbol of light
This image, dear to the American saxophonist Wayne Shorter, deeply irrigates Bruno Angelini's new creation, nourished by the conviction that certain people are "lotus flowers", lighting up the world through their commitment to the common good: Wayne Shorter, Jane Addams, Berta Cáceres and Nelson Mandela.
With the Lotus Flower Trio, accompanied by two exceptional musicians: Sakina Abdou (tenor saxophone, flute) and Angelika Niescier (alto saxophone), the pianist composes a committed, visceral and free repertoire. His melodies, often unstructured, evolve in an aesthetic close to blues-infused free jazz, carried by raw lyricism and great expressivity.
To open the concert, the Jazz Department of the Tourcoing Conservatory will present the results of the workshop led by Bruno Angelini!
