**As part of the Docs en Vue Festival organized by FOCUS,** El'cagette (Roubaix) invites you to a screening of: _**Sergent Immortel**_ **by** **Ziad Kalthoum** (73 min., 2013) Syria - Original version with French subtitles **In the presence of the director** Locarno Film Festival – Award in the documentary category BBC Arabic Festival 2015 – Best Feature Documentary **Synopsis:** A documentary set in the heart of Damascus, unfolding between the barracks where Ziad Kalthoum was conscripted (as the revolution was unfolding across the country) and the set of Syrian director Mohammad Malas’s film. Ziad Kalthoum is Malas’s assistant and a reluctant recruit in the official army, but he is also a filmmaker in search of freedom who believes in the power of cinema. To make sense of this schizophrenic situation, he grabs his camera and interviews both opponents and supporters of Bashar al-Assad’s regime. **Trailer:** [https://vimeo.com/300546010/49a4fe4693](https://vimeo.com/300546010/49a4fe4693) **About the director:** Ziad Kalthoum is a Syrian director who graduated from film school in Moscow. After completing his mandatory military service, he was kept in detention as the revolution broke out in Syria. His films straddle the line between documentary and experimental cinema, blending observation of reality, formal experimentation, and intimate storytelling to explore war, exile, and the upheavals in his country. **Follow the latest news from the Docs en Vue Festival!** **Website:** [https://docsenvue.org/](https://docsenvue.org/?)? **Instagram:** [@docsenvue](https://www.instagram.com/docsenvue/) ?**Facebook:** [Focus Docs en Vue](https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61593469622230) [**Docs en Vue Festival Trailer:** [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5DJ4L-1kEps](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5DJ4L-1kEps)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5DJ4L-1kEps)
