The Route de La Bassée German Military Cemetery, or Wicres German Cemetery, is one of two First World War military cemeteries in the commune of Wicres. The second is the Wicres Village German Military Cemetery.

Occupied by German troops from the end of August 1914, the village of Wicres remained in the combat zone until October 1918, when it was definitively retaken by British troops. This military cemetery was created in March 1915. Most of the dead, around 580 soldiers, lost their lives in the fighting of spring and autumn 1915. Of these, 30 remain unidentified.
Between the wars, the Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge carried out the first work on the enclosure and planted trees. Following the conclusion of the Franco-German agreement on war graves on July 19, 1966, the Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge drew up the definitive plan for the cemetery. In 1979, the old wooden crosses were replaced by natural stone crosses engraved with the names and dates of those buried here.
