Exposition "Arts & Préhistoire"

  • Museums and places of interest
1 Place de l'Hôtel de Ville, 59650 Villeneuve-d'Ascq
Discover the masterpieces created by the first artists, 40,000 years BC! Arts et Préhistoire plunges you into the creative genius of our ancestors and illustrates the profound links they maintained with nature.
From the great aurochs of Lascaux to the Chinese cliffs of Huashan, from the canyons of Utah to the rock shelters of Arnhem Land in Australia, prehistoric art has developed all over the world. Although its symbolism largely escapes us, it exerts a universal magnetism. From the engraved and sculpted objects of furniture art to monumental cave paintings, these works arouse as many aesthetic emotions as they do scientific questions.
Nearly 90 reproductions of some of the oldest prehistoric artefacts found to date, plus an immersive digital experience in caves and caverns around the world, take you on a fabulous journey to the very beginnings of man?s artistic creations!
An exhibition designed by the Musée de l?Homme, a site of the Muséum national d?Histoire naturelle, adapted for the Forum des Sciences
