Le Fort
Discreetly overlooking a 100-hectare plain, this wooded peninsula reveals a cathedral of 4.5 million bricks covered by a 5-hectare roof.
After the defeat of 1870, the Third Republic commissioned General Séré de Rivières to urgently build a new fortification system for its borders. Described as the "Vauban of the 19th century", the fortifications of this era are still little-known. Fort de Seclin is part of Lille's defensive belt. A logistical stronghold during the First World War, in use until 1976 and still in the heart of the fields, it is the only one of the 6 forts in Lille's defensive belt to have remained intact for 140 years.

The museum
The main theme is the evolution of techniques, as you discover a forge dating back to 1890 and end your visit with guns and carriages dating back to 1917. In between, the evolution of the conflict is presented through objects, uniforms and weapons from the daily lives of French, English and German soldiers. Authentic objects bear witness to the history of the men and women who were our parents. Featuring numerous artillery and horse-drawn vehicles dating from the First World War, this unique museum is packed with items as emblematic as they are rare.
