Description
Located on Boulevard Leclerc, the imposing war memorial, where Peace defeats the hydra of war, is a reminder of the martyrdom experienced by Roubaix, which was occupied between October 1914 and October 1918. A bas-relief shows women being led by soldiers, like the 8,000 "voluntary workers" who were deported. The sober statue bears the horn of abundance lost during the occupation, during which the industrial city saw all its factory machinery transferred to Germany or destroyed.
