Description
The Musée des Écoles de Lille, housed in a former school dating from the end of the 19th century, offers a unique immersion into the school world of yesteryear. You'll discover a reconstructed classroom from the 1930s to the 1960s, filled with wooden desks, wall maps, old textbooks and authentic teaching materials. The museum holds over 5,000 books and textbooks, as well as numerous documents and educational objects for students and researchers.
Every first Saturday of the month, a schoolmaster brings to life the classroom life of yesteryear: rituals, lost materials, school habits of the 1930s? Visitors can even try their hand at the famous ?Certif? dictation, written with pen and purple ink, before enjoying a temporary exhibition and an old-fashioned snack. The museum also offers intergenerational activities, ideal for families.
Located at 2 rue Frédéric Mottez, just a stone's throw from the Hôtel de Ville, the Musée des Écoles is a warm and inviting place, both fun and educational, where you can nostalgically rediscover our grandparents' school days.
