The Musée du Carillon invites you on a unique voyage of discovery up the bell tower of Saint-Christophe church. As you climb the 200 steps, you'll gradually discover the behind-the-scenes secrets of Tourcoing's emblematic sound heritage. As you progress, you'll be immersed in the eventful history of the carillon, from its origins to its contemporary evolution. The tour takes you on a journey through time. You'll reach the tower's various levels, where documents, mechanisms and anecdotes trace the essential role of bells in the life of the city. One of the highlights is the exceptional start-up of the old 18th-century ritornello drum, a rare mechanism whose operation illustrates the ingenuity of the craftsmen of yesteryear. For safety reasons, access to the bell chamber is forbidden, but the tour nevertheless allows visitors to appreciate the complexity and beauty of this monumental instrument. This immersion in the world of the carillon offers a unique perspective on traditional know-how and the musical and symbolic role of bells in Tourquen?s history.
