In 1922, mayor Henri Delécaux commissioned the erection of the war memorial in the Place de la Victoire. Standing 2.30 m high, the bronze statue of the "grenade-throwing poilu" is the realistic work of Henri Soubricas. The 394 names of soldiers and resistance fighters on the pedestal were joined by 82 others after the Second World War. The military hemicycle was built in 1927 in the nearby Canteleu cemetery. On the tomb of the Unknown Soldier rests the statue of the "lying poilu".
