Description
In 1922, mayor Henri Delécaux commissioned the erection of the war memorial in the Place de la Victoire. Standing 2.30 m high, the bronze statue of the grenade-throwing Poilu is the realistic work of Henri Soubricas. The 394 names of soldiers and resistance fighters on the pedestal were joined by 82 others after the Second World War. The military hemicycle was built in 1927 in the nearby Canteleu cemetery. The statue of the recumbent Poilu lies on the tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
