It was built from 1924 to 1932 by the architect Emile Dubuisson who was inspired by the triangular-gabled Flemish houses. Its 104 metres-high belfry is listed as a Unesco World Heritage Site.

The belfry is open for visits every days from 10am to 1pm and from 2pm to 5.30pm.
